Sweet Charity - Auditions Information

Sweet Charity auditions will be held on Sunday 6th December with a workshop on 'Rhythm of Life' and chorus auditions being held in the morning 10.30am to 12.30pm, and principal auditions in the afternoon 1.30pm to 4pm. For those that cannot attend on the Sunday, a further audition will take place on Thursday 10th December from 7.30pm. Both auditions will be at Blackfriars Arts Centre, Spain Lane, Boston. Audition material will be made available at Blackfriars from Saturday 21st November (the week of Oliver!), or download below.

Audition Material

All page references are to the Musicscope libretto / chorus music book. Paper copies will be available from a folder in the kitchen at Blackfriars Theatre from Saturday 21st November (afternoon). The links below will take you to PDF versions for you to download and print off as required.

CHARITY VALENTINE
Voice: alto / mezzo

A young cheerful optimistic woman, works as a dance hall hostess (think : lap dancer). A sucker for a hard luck story. New York accent. Must be a good dancer.

OSCAR LINDQUIST
Voice : baritone

An educated, well-spoken American young man, shy, repressed and gawky. Works as an actuary (the most boring job in the world). The reluctant romantic lead of the show.

An international Italian film star and pin-up- slightly over the hill, perhaps but still can pull the ladies. Italian accent.

NICKIE and HELENE
Voices :alto /mezzo

Charity's friends and confidantes, also dance hall hostesses. Cynical and humorous. Could be a bit older and past their youthful best. New York / Bronx accents. Must be good dancers.

Any age. A charismatic church leader, worships at the school of marijuana, peace and love. Accent : 60's "hip" American.

Tenor to top G
Should be confident to sing a harmony line.

Any age, the dance hall manager, gruff, wise-cracking, loves his girls really but makes them work Shows his soft side when Charity gets engaged to Oscar.

CHORUS
There are dozens of chorus parts to allocate, many with spoken lines, ranging from Dance Hall girls, who must be able to "bump and grind", to cameo parts for ex-boyfriends of Charity, ice cream vendors, receptionists, people passing in the street, Daddy Brubeck's sidekicks, and dance hall customers. All ages, sizes and shapes needed!!
